Caye Caulker's Original Animal Sanctuary

Community Surveying

This project involves surveying members of the Caye Caulker, Belize community to learn more about the number of pets kept on the island, as well as their treatment.

What’s involved?

Through this program, you’ll ride a bike (for a small rental fee) from house to house on Caye Caulker, asking residents how many cats and dogs live there, how many are spayed or neutered, and take notes on whether any animals you see look abused or neglected.

This program will help with further community outreach projects to educate locals about pet care, as well as to gauge the sanctuary’s ongoing efforts in providing education about and support for humane treatment of house cats and dogs.

All volunteers stay onsite at P.A.W. Your accommodation will be in a cabana just at the shoreline. If you want to upgrade your accommodation to one of our suites (at an additional cost) then we can give you more details when you apply.

There are no background requirements for this program, though you should be comfortable with handling the project independently. All volunteers must be 18 or older, willing to stay at least one week, and be in good health.

You also are asked to cover your bicycle rental while completing the community survey project.
