Caye Caulker's Original Animal Sanctuary

Humane Education

P.A.W. for Art is a humane education program aiming to educate school age children about animal welfare issues. This program uses art as a vehicle to bring about positive change for people and animals alike by teaching them pet responsibility, humane treatment of all living beings and the importance of sterilizing their animals.

What’s involved?

This program invites you to teach local children about humane cat and animal care. You can visit schools to work with classes and groups of students, or you can host summer camp events or weekend projects to demonstrate proper animal treatment and care, discuss the rights of animals and their value, and how to assist in the prevention of abuse. Less structured than our other P.A.W. projects, volunteers with the Humane Animal Education program are encouraged to develop your own teaching agenda.

If you’re not quite comfortable working with children, but you still wish to help P.A.W. with community outreach, then you might be interested in our Community Survey project in Belize.

All volunteers stay onsite at P.A.W. Your accommodation will be in a cabana just at the shoreline. If you want to upgrade your accommodation to one of our suites (at an additional cost) then we can give you more details when you apply.

There are no background requirements for this program, though you should be comfortable working with children. However if you are a teacher or have teaching experience then this is a plus. All volunteers must be 18 or older, willing to stay at least one week, and be in good health.

You also are asked to contribute program materials for this project, such as art supplies, handouts, or other items needed for the activities you’ll plan.

To apply

Please email us with your details, telling us about your background and why you would like to take part.
